For Science – Way Out Of Control

More of For Science’s unique brand of thrashy pop punk. This band is all sorts of awesome.
You can download this record as well from Don Giovanni Records.

For Science – Revenge For Hire

Speedy and raw pop punk. It took me a few listens to really appreciate this record. The songs are short, fast and catchy. You can download this for free from Don Giovanni Records.

FFO: The Ergs!, The Queers

Footnotes – Everything Last Year

Wow. This is really cool. Footnotes are a 2 piece (guitar and drums) emo/indie rock band. The DIY recording adds to the awesomeness of this. They have this up for download on their Myspace.

FFO: The Promise Ring

Football, etc. – First Down

This is really, really cool. The more I listen to this, the more I like it. Female led, downbeat, melodic emo.
Download this from If You Make It.
Also, the singer was in Tin Kitchen so check them out as well.

FFO: Tin Kitchen, Sunny Day Real Estate, Cheap Girls, a variety of bands from Deep Elm Records.

Foster and Allen – Maggie 7” single (black)

“Old people music” according to my girlfriend, which means this is folk music from the early 80’s. B-side is ‘The Willow’.

Foreigner – Urgent 7” single (black)

I don’t know too much about Foreigner and I’m indifferent towards this 7”. B-side is 'Girl On The Moon'. Excuse the photos of the records. I’m not the best photographer in the world.

Extortion – Demo 7” reissue (black /500)

I got this from a mate who ordered us both a copy when this was released. We finally exchanged cash for goods last weekend. This is a reissue of the demo with 2 extra tracks stuck on the end.
The new songs were recorded with the current line up (at the time, it’s probably changed by now).
This rules…as was to be expected.

Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace

I miss old Foo Fighters.

Foo Fighters – Skin and Bones

I got bored pretty fast.

Various Artists – Hopeless Records Summer Sampler: I’m So Hopeless, You’re So Hopeless

The bands on this were pretty horrible. The CD is enhanced with videos of some awful songs by some awful bands.
Also, horrible artwork.

Avoid these bands:

  1. All Time Low – Poppin’ Champagne
  2. Anarbor – Where The Wild Things Are (Monsters)
  3. There For Tomorrow – No More Room To Breathe
  4. Nural – Hits Keep Coming
  5. The Dangerous Summer – Disconnect (acoustic)
  6. All Time Low – Dear Maria, Count Me In (acoustic)
  7. The Human Abstract – Vela, Together We Await The Storm

Don’t watch these videos:

  1. All Time Low - Dear Maria, Count Me In
  2. All Time Low – Six Feet Under The Stars
  3. There For Tomorrow – Pages
  4. The Human Abstract - Vela, Together We Await The Storm
  5. The Dangerous Summer – The Permanent Rain (live)

Elvis Costello and the Attractions – Man Out Of Time 7” single (black)

I don’t think that Elvis Costello can ever do me wrong.

Elvis Costello and the Attractions – Clubland 7” single (black)

I have a feeling this 7” is going to be on repeat for a while.
I first fell in love with Elvis Costello when I was a kid. I played ‘The Man’ cassette tape over and over again. I can’t see this love affair ending any time soon.

The Cockroaches – Hope 7” single (black)

I found this today in the $3 bin. For those who don’t know, The Cockroaches were an Australian pop rock band with members that went onto form The Wiggles. These aren’t my favourite Cockroaches songs.

Today has been a good day. Cheap records rule!

ABBA – Money, Money, Money 7” single (black)

Another find from the $1 bin at Beatdisc. I’m enjoying this a little too much. B-side is ‘Crazy World’.

ABBA – Dancing Queen 7” single (black)

I found this today in the $1 bin at Beatdisc today. A pretty good barg I think. I’m going to have this stuck in my head for weeks. The B-side is ‘That’s Me’.

Foo Fighters – In Your Honor

Foo Fighters go stadium rock on Disc 1 and quiet and boring on Disc 2.

Also, I have a thing about bands wasting liner notes and this album is a perfect example. Useless pictures of themselves and guitars and the lyrics to only one song (‘In Your Honor’) from a 2 disc album containing 20 songs. ONE FUCKING SONG! That just annoys me.

Foo Fighters – One By One

I didn’t connect with this record like I did the first three Foo Fighter records. Kinda disappointed.

Foo Fighters – There Is Nothing Left To Lose

More killer Foo Fighters songs. Rocky, melodic and catchy.

Foo Fighters – The Colour and The Shape

If you ask anyone what their favourite Foo Fighters album is and chances are they would say ‘The Colour and The Shape’. You can’t really argue with them, this is Foo Fighters at their best.
I have a copy of the reissue, which has 6 bonus tracks (4 covers and 2 originals). The covers include Requiem (Killing Joke), Drive Me Wild (Vanity 6), Down in the Park (Gary Numan) and Baker Street (Gerry Rafferty).

Foo Fighters – Foo Fighters

I’ve had this album on repeat for a few days now. Dave Grohl played (almost) everything on this debut by himself, showing he wasn’t just the drummer in Nirvana.
In my book, these are some of the best Foo Fighter songs.

FFO: Nirvana

Foo Fighters – Brain Damage (Bootleg)

Recorded at Leeds (track 1-9) and Glasgow (track 10-16). I don’t even remember downloading this bootleg let alone why I downloaded it. I’m not really a fan of live albums and bootlegs are only cool when you have the hard copy. Anyhow, Foo Fighters are a great band, both live and on record.

Folly – Resist Convenience

This album is a lot better than ‘Insanity Later’. Everything seems to work so much better on this as opposed to ‘Insanity Later’. It also has a lot more of a poppy feel to it at times.

FFO: Fear Before The March Of Flames

Folly – Insanity Later

Folly play a blend of metalcore, ska, punk and hardcore. They are a jack of all trade, and a master of none.

Various Artists – Roadrunner Records 2011 New Music Sampler

Horrible, horrible, horrible shit.

Bands to avoid:

  1. Devildriver – Dead to Rights
  2. Murderdolls – Nowhere
  3. Rob Zombie – What?
  4. Stone Sour – Digital
  5. Coheed and Cambria – The Broken
  6. Silverstein – Darling Harbour
  7. 36 Crazyfists – Reviver
  8. Taking Dawn – Time to Burn
  9. Dommin – Tonight

The Focus / Amateur Party – Split CD

The Focus are from Melbourne, they might have broken up but I’m not sure. They have a Hüsker Dü kinda thing going on. Amateur Party hail from Philadelphia in the US. They play energetic indie/British post-punk. I’ve read that members of Armalite and Limp Wrist are in this band, so that’s pretty cool. The Amateur Party songs are the stand out for me. I just like them better. Missing Link put this out. Great record store in Melbourne.

Floorpunch – Twin Killing

I picked this out of the bargain bin at my local record store. I had no clue who Floorpunch were but I bought it anyway. It proved to be a good choice. Twin Killing brings Floorpunch’s EP Division One Champs and Goal Line Stand together onto one CD. Straight to the point, straight edge youth crew.

FFO: In My Eyes, Youth of Today, Breakdown

Various Artists – Honest Don’s Greatest Shits

One afternoon my mate Dave and I went to Beatdisc Records. Dave bought something like $400 worth of records. I put a couple of the CD’s on my computer while we got drunk (‘cause I’m cheap). This was amongst those records. This comp has a good mix of Fat Wreck style punk rock and ska bands.

Various Artists – The Shape of Flakes to Come

FFO: No Idea Records, The Fest

Flogging Molly – Within a Mile of Home

More great songs from Flogging Molly. I don’t think it’s possible for them to write a song that doesn’t get the blood pumping and craving a Guinness. The musicianship is superb (as per usual) and the lyrics paint beautiful pictures. What I like about Flogging Molly is that they hold a traditional Celtic sound while having a punk edge.

Flogging Molly – Drunken Lullabies

I’m listening to this while laying on my bed downing Pez and trying to soak up the last of my freedom before I start my first full time job. However, right now I’d rather be in an old Irish pub drinking whiskey and chasing it with pints of Guinness with my mates. Why does it have to be a Monday today?

Flogging Molly – Swagger

I just want to sing hard, drink harder and dance harderer when Flogging Molly is cranking through my stereo, and seeing it’s a Friday I might just do that.

FFO: The Pogue, The Dropkick Murphys

Campaign – Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice!

Man, I love this band! This is the latest release from Campaign. It’s more of the same melodic punk and gruff vocaled affair that I’ve come to expect and love from them, but they do it so much better than most of the bands out there in my opinion. I’ve had this on repeat since I downloaded it from If You Make I, you can also download this and their other releases from their website, It Likes To Party.
Also check out some acoustic versions of songs they did for Nervous Energies
I can not stress how much you need to listen to this band! DO IT!
FFO: Samiam, Hot Water Music, Jawbreaker, Iron Chic

Break The Habit – The Last Songs

If You Make It hasn’t failed me yet. They just keep posting great releases from great bands. This morning I downloaded this gem from Brighton, UK’s Break The Habit (you can find it here). Unfortunately these guys have broken up. I’m kinda disappointed that I’m only finding out about them now. Keep in mind that I’m not familiar with this band’s previous work, but from what I’m hearing Break The Habit have finished on a high note.

FFO: Shook Ones, Small Arms Dealer, Bangers, Spraynard

Chris Wollard and the Ship Thieves - Chris Wollard and the Ship Thieves

Hot Water Music and The Draft singer/guitarist is having a go at the alt-country solo project that everyone seems to be doing at the moment. It was abit different to what I expected as I’d only herd ‘No Exception’, which is probably the rockiest track on this album.
This record is abit of a grower. I need to give it a few more listens to fully appreciate it. I’m pretty excited to see these tracks played live when Chris Wollard comes out to Australia in April with Tim Barry (see tour dates bellow).

FFO: Tim Barry, Chuck Ragan, Darren Gibson

Aye Nako – Demo 2010

Female lead up-beat punk rock. I downloaded this from If You Make It. I’m cleaning my room to this at the moment and enjoying the shit out of it!

FFO: Cheeky, Lemuria

Flogging Molly – Whiskey On A Sunday (CD + DVD)

I picked this up for a dollar a while ago along with a bunch of other stuff from a Reverse Garbage which is a bargain!!!
The DVD contains a documentary on the band with a few special features. It details how the band came together, a few live songs, some interesting stories from their time on the road, amongst other things. I enjoyed the DVD. It left me interested in the band and craving more stories.
The CD consists of acoustic and live tracks. I’ve never been too fond of live CDs, but this shows how strong a live band Flogging Molly really is.
To be honest I wouldn’t have gotten this if it wasn’t a dollar but the DVD is what makes this release worth it.

Floorpunch - Fast Times At The Jersey Shore

A truly great record from New Jersey’s Floorpunch. Straight to the point youth crew. I don’t think I need to say too much about this record. I’m going back to moshing in my room.

DxOxSxSx - Demo

Power violence/punk. I don’t know anything about this band really. I picked up their demo from Blackwire Records. I wish they had a lyric sheet, I’m interested to find out what they are growling about.
