Fugazi – In On The Kill Taker

This was my introduction to Fugazi. I remember being completely blown away by this. Even today it still has an impact on me when I throw it into the stereo.
While listening to this I can hear where other bands have been influenced and bits and pieces that and taken to use.

Funkdoobiest – The Funkiest 12” single (black)

I enjoyed this a little too much. I was given a whole bunch of hip hop 12” singles at a garage sale years ago and this was amongst a whole lot of crap.
‘Freak Mode’ can be found on the B-side.

FFO: Cypress Hill

Fugazi – 7 Songs LP (black)

This is a reissue of Fugazi’s first EP.  This is where it started. Post-punk/hardcore/whatever you want to call it. You NEED this in your life!

The Future Kings of Nowhere – The Future Kings of Nowhere

The Future Kings of Nowhere play a type of folk pop that gets stuck in your head while you’re walking or riding your bike home on spring days. The lyrics are imaginative and paint a great picture.
You can download this from If You Make It so you know that it's going to be good.

FFO: Violent Femmes, Frank Turner

Further – Further!

This record is really on an off for me. At times I completely tune out and forget that I’m even listening to it and other times I’m really into it. This is VERY Sonic Youthy.
The one thing that I am sure of is that that cover art is horrible.

FFO: Sonic Youth

Furious Styles – Life Lessons

Cheesy hardcore coated with hip hop. I’m not tuff enough to listen to this really and if I was I probably still wouldn’t listen to this again.

FFO: Donnybrook

Fucked Up – The Chemistry Of Common Life LP x 2 (black)

This record picks up where ‘Hidden World’ left off. The music has gotten even more complex and intelligent and the artwork is amazing.
This band keeps pushing themselves and the music they create further and further with each release.

Various Artists – Chili Peppers Jukebox

15 tracks that The Red Hot Chili Peppers had picked for a Mojo comp. I picked this up from a free CD bin at the record store.
This is pretty enjoyable and has a diverse selection of bands/genres on here.

  1. Gang of Four – Natural’s Not In It
  2. Circle Jerks – Group Sex
  3. Ohio Players – Fopp
  4. Sly & The Family Stone – Life
  5. Adolescents – LA Girl
  6. The Weirdos – Life Of Crime
  7. James Chance – Contort Yourself (original version)
  8. James Brown – There Was A Time
  9. Blonde Redhead – Elephant Woman
  10. The Slits – Typical Girls
  11. Descendents – Myage
  12. The Wipers – D-7
  13. Harmonia – Dino
  14. Frank Zappa – Son Of Mr Green Genes
  15. Funkadelic – Free Your Mind And Your Ass Will Follow

Jen Buxton – Don’t Change Your Plans LP (black 75/250)

Jen Buxton played in Like..Alaska, a band which I have a huge soft spot for. As a result I had high expectations for this LP, and Jen delivers. These down to earth acoustic songs are so sad and beautiful. Pick this up!!!

FFO: Tim Barry, Chuck Ragan and Like…Akaska

God Mode – Demo

I downloaded this from If You Make It (yeah I’m addicted to everything they post on that site). This is raw, no frills hardcore punk band and their name makes reference to Doom 2 so there’s no reason not to like this.

Funeral For A Friend – Hours

I wanted to turn this off halfway through the first song. I didn’t. I powered through. I was stupid.

Fucked Up – Hidden World

This is an AMAZING album!

This record clocks in in just under 74 minutes, so this is not for those with short attention spans. The best way I’ve herd someone describe this is ‘shoegaze hardcore’. The artwork for this album is beautiful and also hilarious (parting the red sea…).

Fucked Up – Year of the Pig

This CD is a collection of all the Year of the Pig singles. 8 songs in 44 minutes.
The artwork from all the singles are included in the liner notes as well which is pretty neat as well.
It’s interesting to hear all the different versions of ‘Year of the Pig’ that are found on each separate single release.

Fucked Up – Year of the Rat 12” (black)

The B-side on this 12” single is ‘First Born’.
I picked this up while browsing a record store while waiting for a mate and I haven’t listened to this until now. I’m kicking myself now. This is really amazing, but then again, Fucked Up really does know how to write great songs.

Fucked Up – Dance of Death 7” (black)

I picked this up when I was first getting into the band. 2 great melodic rock hardcore indie punk songs from Fucked Up.
The B-side on this wax is ‘Zezozose’

Fucked Up/Haymaker – Split

This is such a great split! I only have a digital copy of this so someone please sell me a hardcopy!
Everyone knows of Fucked Up. If you are a new fan of Fucked Up check out this split and get an idea of where they came from and what they sounded like before they found bongos and millions of pedals.
I don’t know an awful lot about Haymaker, but these songs are great and kinda scare me. Their music makes me fear for my life.
Check this out!

Funeral For A Friend – Casually Dressed and Deep in Conversation

The only songs I ‘enjoyed’ on this album were ‘Bullet Theory’ and ‘Novella’.

Fuck It I Quit/Pet Meat – Split 7” (blue)

The pairing of these two bands for a split s a little weird.
Fuck It I Quit play melodic hardcore with a Ruiner/Modern Life Is War feel while Pet Meat play a more thrash and PV style of hardcore punk.

The FIIQ songs are a bit better than those found on the demo in my opinion.

I’m fairly certain that Pet Meat is members from Mindsnare and Frenzal Rhomb messing around. Their side of the insert has hilarious meanings accompanying the songs.

Fumblerooksi – Demo 2009

Raw pop punk with hints of melodic hardcore. Find the download for this here.

Fugazi – Red Medicine

If you don’t know who Fugazi are…what are you doing? This is a pretty experimental record for these fathers of post-hardcore. Great musician ship, the songs are smart and written well and have a lot of passion to them. Recommended.

The Fucking Cops – Demo

Another great release you can download at If You Make It. Great pop punk with a beard edge and a social awareness.

FFO: Vietnam Werewolf, Air Raid Barcelona, Potboiler

Fuck It I Quit – Demo

Pretty strong demo. Melodic hardcore. Picked this up for free when I saw Miles Away or something at the Manning Bar years ago.

FFO: Jungle Fever, Ruiner

From The Ruins – In Time…

More heavy and ‘brutal’ hardcore from these Western Australians. Better than ‘Lights Out’.

From The Ruins – Lights Out

Heavy hardcore from Perth. I’m not a big fan of this style of hardcore really. These guys have broken up now.

FFO: Death Before Dishonour, Terror

From The Heart – Demo 2007

Boring pop ‘punk’ with boring melodies.

From First To Last – Heroine

Horrendous artwork/photos in the liner notes of this.

The music is more ‘mature’ than ‘Dear Diary’ I guess.

Frenzal Rhomb – A Man’s Not A Camel

One of my favourite Frenzal records. If you haven’t been introduced to Frenzal before I would suggest this would be the record to start on.

From First To Last – Dear Diary, My Teenage Angst Has A Body Count

Yeah, I know. It was a phase I was going though.

Freshman 15 – Throw Up Your Hands For One Night Stands

Just when you think things can’t get worse….they do!

Freshman 15 – 5 Ways To Get To Third Base

AVOID!!!
Pop 'punk' at its worst.

FFO:12 year olds who are in 'the scene'.

Frenzal Rhomb – Forever Malcom Young

This got a lot of spins on my stereo when it came out. And with good reason. This is Aussie punk rock at its best.

Frenzal Rhomb – San Souci

This is probably the least played Frenzal record. Though there are still a bunch of great songs on here.

Frenzal Rhomb – Shut Your Mouth

This record is a bit hit and miss but there are some great Fat Wreck style punk rock on here.

Fireworks – Bonfires 7” (Orange /300)

I came home from work the other day and found this on my bed. My girlfriend had surprised me by ordering Fireworks new 7”. She got purple and I got orange.

Fireworks have released this 7” EP to hold us over before they release ‘Gospel’ offering a taste of what’s to come. The track list of the new album has been released and I’m glad to find that these songs are not found on the new album. Too often bands release an EP to tie over their fans while those same songs end up on the album. That’s money that I can spend on another bands release, going to a show or getting pissed.

Music wise, the band hasn’t strayed far from what fans have come to expect from this band. And I don’t mind one bit.

Each 7” also came with a poster and a set of 7 postcards.

Video Nasty – Demo 2010 cassette (25/30)

I had a really bad day at work today. Then on the way home someone almost ran into me. As soon as I got home I went to put this on but it didn’t work. I tried 10 times. Still didn’t work. Oh well, it only cost $1.
Video Nasty are a good band and play Black Wire Records heaps so go check them out.

Various Artists – Short, Fast and Loud 10” (black)

Celebrating 10 years of Short, Fast and Loud zine. I picked this up when I saw Extortion at Black Wire Records (219 Parramatta Rd, Annandale, Sydney, NSW, Australia. Check them out).
I knew nothing of this zine before this and I’m kicking myself now. If you’re into the bands on this comp you need to get your hands on this and get reading! Then again if you listen to these bands you’re probably already reading it.
The zine is killer. They pack a lot into here. Interviews, reviews, top 10’s, rants, and more.

Side A
  1. Voetsek – Stigmata
  2. Coke Bust – Time Theft
  3. Larm – Hippies
  4. Seein Red – Riot

  6. Conquest For Death – Short, Fat and Loud
  7. Superbad – Death Merchant
  8. Noisear – Fragile Existence 2
  9. Total Fucking Destruction – Tony Hung Himself
  10. Extortion – Decompose

  2. Lack of Interest – On The Edge Of Clarity

  6. Pretty Little Flower – Obliteration Horizon
  7. Slight Slappers – Stupid Is As Stupid Does
  8. Brodys Militia – Drone Mob II
  9. Flagitious Idiosyncrasy In The Dilapidation – Wallow
  10. Wasteoid – Ballad Of A Real Son Of A Bitch/Multiple Personalities/Short But Sweet
  11. Street Pizza – Fuck You Pay Me!
